CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF ELTAKO - 75 YEARS OF INNOVATIONS

2024 marked a special milestone for ELTAKO: we celebrated 75 years of innovation, development and countless partnerships! This anniversary reflected not only our own journey, but also the path we have travelled together with you.

PS: Below we have prepared a journey through time through our 75-year history.

Have fun exploring!

1949

The start
Founder Ing. Horst Ziegler develops the first impulse switch in a garage in Stuttgart-Bad-Cannstatt. The company name at the time was “Ing. Horst Ziegler ELTAKO-Apparatebau”

1950

S6w, R6w
The S6w is practical, inexpensive and fits snugly into the 70mm junction box – the preferred place of all remote switches for a long time. This is followed by the first R6w installation relay in the same design.

1964

New production facility in Fellbach
A new, much larger production location is being built and occupied at Hofener Str. 54. This is already the current company headquarters.

1974

BM9, S9/S10
Release of the series 9, S9/ S10.

1976-80

Start of Electronics Development + EDP
We start with the development of the first electronic impulse switches & installation relays. These celebrated their world premiere the following year under the names ES20 and ER20.
The EZ30 followed in 1978, the ES and EZ60 in 1979 and the ER60 in 1980.

1981

Foundation of Eltako GmbH Schaltgeräte
Reorganisation into ELTAKO GmbH Schaltgeräte. The founder’s two sons, Peter Ziegler and Ulrich Horst Ziegler, take over the management.

1990

The company building is expanded
The building is being expanded and modernised. Now, as the company’s headquarters, it is also home to administration and development.

1991

Series 12 and company acquisition Schröder
After a long period of development, the 12 series brought mechanical impulse switches and relays to the market in a significantly improved design. In 1991, it was also possible to take over 100% of the time switch manufacturer Schröder, including its extensive company building in Loßburg in the Black Forest. The building would later serve as a production facility for our electromechanical products for almost 30 years.

2000

Acquisition of EIA Annaberg
The switchgear division of EIA Annaberg was taken over and internally integrated into the new EIA-Schröder GmbH

2001

Series 81+91
These series represented the latest generation of mechanical devices for installation in boxes and remain reliable and popular product series to this day.

2004

Shenzhen
Contract manufacturing starts at Chuangren in Shenzhen, China. Since all Eltako electronic devices come from this production. In addition, we are celebrating the hiring of our first own sales representative outside Germany. The beginning of a Europe-wide ELTAKO distribution network.

2005

Bistable relays and first own area representative outside Germany
We introduce the first electronic impulse switch on the market that is fully controlled by a microcontroller and has no standby loss. In addition, wide-range power supplies with minimised stand-by loss now complement our offering.

2006

Purchase of SchellCount meters; Universal control voltage, minimised standby loss and multifunction throughout
We take over the complete rights to the SchellCount electricity meters and incorporate them into our portfolio. The universal control voltage (UC), the minimised stand-by loss and the multifunction switching devices become reliable standards of our products.

2008

DX patent; sensors, actuators and controllers with the EnOcean wireless standard
For some time now, some of our products have been able to switch in the zero crossing of the sine wave and thus in the voltage-free moment. With the now patented DX technology, users can choose whether they want to use the feature.
We join the EnOcean alliance and begin to develop actuators and later sensors based on this wireless standard. Thanks to this largely battery-free wireless system, our customers enjoy unlimited flexibility and convenience in building installations. In 2019 ELTAKO officially becomes a promoter of the alliance.

2011

Market launch of FVS-Safe
The first smart home controller from ELTAKO is launched.

2012

Participation in EnOcean
There is an opportunity to acquire first 6% and later more 12,8% shares in EnOcean GmbH. We are using this opportunity to make this technology even more future-proof.

2013

LED Tubes
For the first time, we are dealing with the topic of lighting. LED tubes are a perfect fit for us, we can incorporate our experience from the development of electronic products and, above all, our know-how as a dimmer manufacturer.

2017

MiniSafe
We present the first generation of our popular MiniSafe, as a standard smart home controller, alongside the more powerful Safe series.

2018

New CI and new direction
We decide to split our portfolio into Professional Smart Home and Professional Standard and, together with an external partner, develop a new CI including a new logo.
In the same year, we celebrate the appointment of the 15th regional representative outside Germany.

2019

Acquisition of iRoom Oberndorf/ Austria
We invest in iRoom GmbH, an Apple-certified manufacturer of iPad docking stations, and also use this experience for other Apple-certified smart home products.

2020

Ulrich Ziegler becomes CEO of ELTAKO
He follows in the footsteps of his father and his father’s father and leads the family business into the third generation.

2022

Foundation of DBT
We founded this joint venture around wibutler’s smart home technology, called Digital Building Technology, together with the companies BEGA, Oventrop and Viessmann. The aim is to build the most important European IoT platform for digital buildings.

2024

ELTAKO today
Our extensive portfolio includes over 1,000 devices, which are divided into three categories: Professional Standard, Professional Smart Home and Professional Smart Building. Particularly noteworthy is our wide range of standard products. These include universal dimmer switches, three-phase and mono-phase meters as well as a variety of mechanical and electronic switching devices, including switching, control and coupling relays. We also offer multifunctional time relays, time relays, time switches, field isolating switches, pulse counters as well as current, network monitoring and current limiting relays. Our staircase lighting timers, timer switches, wired shading systems and roller shutter controls as well as switching power supplies are also in great demand.
Some of our products can be easily parameterised via Bluetooth with the ELTAKO Connect app. Our Professional Smart Home actuators are available either with or without additional connectivity. We are proud to offer an extensive range of sensors as well as EnOcean, DALI, DALI-2 and IP actuators, which are Apple Home or Matter certified depending on the version and meet the latest standards in building automation. For integration into existing systems, we support Modbus RTU and M-Bus as well as KNX and MQTT via gateways.
