Late autumn and winter are slowly setting in. However, with the current discussions about gas and electricity cost increases, it’s hard to romanticize the cold season.
In this blog, we would like to explain how our technologies can help you save energy!
Can smart homes make a difference?
Of course, smart home products are not witchcraft that will make your consumption disappear into thin air. Their job is simply to make sure you don’t forget to close all the windows, turn down the heat or turn off all the lights when you’re stressed. Your smart home system is the little helper that helps you save money in every area of your home through timers and other automation! So the answer is yes: you can use it to generate a difference.
But how?
Through our wide range of products in our Professional Smart Home portfolio and their high compatibility, we can ensure a high range of applications!
Let’s start with home entrances: Heating while letting in fresh air provides for very high and unnecessary energy consumption throughout the day. If you use our wireless window/door contacts, they can send a telegram as soon as a window or door is opened. Depending on the setting, the heating in the room can be automatically turned down, and/or a push notification can be sent to your smartphone.
Next, we will have a look at room temperature control: smart heating controllers can be used to set the room temperature to the exact degree. This doesn’t sound drastic, but it’s vital with rising prices. Every degree difference makes up 6% of your heating consumption in the long run. Means: Precise adjustment pays off!
Our next tip: Automations via various sensors! These can control lighting, heating, and shading elements as needed according to an individual plan that you have created. By automatically raising the shutters and turning off the lights and heating, you will be reminded daily to take advantage of the warmth and brightness of the daylight. This also ensures that you don’t spend money unnecessarily on lighting or heating that you don’t need during your absence. Also very useful in this area: while you are absent, light scenes can simulate your presence and thus deter potential burglars.
We also recommend that you forego functions that are not urgently needed. For example, garden watering systems, air conditioning, etc. are hardly needed during the rainy and cold seasons and can therefore be switched off completely for the time being. By switching off the devices via the actuator you can make sure that the stand-by loss is minimized.
By cooperating with other manufacturers like “wibutler” this is much easier: We take care of the control in the room via sensors and actuators and the “wibutler” takes over the control of the heating!
In general, we can say: Turn off what you don’t need! And if you do forget to check every room for heating and lighting due to your busy everyday life, then smart home products can be a good support. They can help when you don’t have time and turn off what you accidentally left on!
